White shirt from my sister, tie second hand, pants second hand, socks made out of bambu and from BRAINTREE. The shoes are Vintage from COW and recently I had them fixed at my local shoe repair, no need to buy new when you can fix old! I really recomend to wear a tie to a shirt like this if you are going to be more formal, why let the boys have all coulors? most of the times they are not more than a pound or so!

Sorry for the lack of updates here last week, sometimes life comes in between! But hey here we go again. This week we will be writing about labels…. What is it to write about labels you might wonder, and my answer to that is simple: a lot! There is so many organization that are working with making sure that the clothes are made fairtrade, eco, or made out of organic cotton for example. So we are going to try to explain some of the organizations that have a label you might se when you out shopping. Keep coming back!

Knowledge is easy to carry the saying goes. But not always. If you have knowledge of the textile industry, it will rub your soul to wear certain clothes. In order to make conscious choices, one must have knowledge. To be able to refrain cotton picked by child workers, like in the third cotton country Uzpekistan, I have to know where cotton is grown. Here it will be difficult. I asked around in many stores if they knew where their cotton is from. Nobody had a clue. It is of course much easier for companies to say “don`t know” instead of taking responsibility for the entire production chain.
It might be easy to avoid being enlightened and only think abour myself. But I don`t want to live like that. Love your neighbour as yourself, the Bible says, and for that I seek. Also when my “neighbour” lives halfway around the world…
Many choices and consumers have the power to change. Might feel like a burden. Then it is uplifting to think about that the less you consume the less choices you will have to make…
And that serves both your wallet and the environment ; )
Kunskap är lätt att bära brukar det heta. Men inte alltid. Har man kunskap om hur det ser ut i textilindustrin är det inte utan att det skaver på själen att bära vissa kläder.
För att kunna göra medvetna val, måste man få kunskap om läget. För att t ex kunna avstå bomull som är plockad av barnarbetare, som i tredje största bomullslandet Uzpekistan, måste jag veta om plagget innehåller bomull därifrån. Här blir det svårt. Frågade igår i lite olika affärer om vart deras bomull var producerad. Ingen visste. På H&M fick jag svaret att jag skulle ringa kundtjänst och slussas till någon som visste eller gå in på deras hemsida. Orka!
Det är så klart mycket lättare för företagen att säga “vet inte” istället för att ta ansvar för hela produktions kedjan.
Det skulle kanske vara enkelt att undvika att bli upplyst om orättvisor och bara tänka på mig själv. Men jag vill inte leva så. “Älska din nästa som dig själv” står det i Bibeln och det vill jag sträva efter. Också när min “nästa” lever på andra sidan jorden…
Många val och konsumenten har makt att förändra. Kan kännas som en börda ibland. Då kan det vara upplyftande att tänka på att ju mindre man konsumerar desstu mindre svåra val behöver man göra… Och det tjänar ju både plånboken och miljön på ; )
Today I went shopping in search of organic tights. I took the opportunity to ask around for organic clothing. Some shop-assistants were ignorant of the matter, but most were helpful and nice. I got some interesting answers. One shop-assistant said “This t-shirt is completely natural”, it was made of 50% cotton and 50% Modal. Neither she nor I knew what Modal was, and all who read this post will know that the other half can hardly be called natural. In conversation with the shop-assistants, it appeared that most customers were simply not willing to pay more for organic clothing. It was the same answer in cheap clothing stores (Lindex) as well as in more expensive (The Cashba).

Idag var jag nere på köpkvateret där jag bor. På jakt efter ekologiska strumpbyxor. Passade även på att kolla utbudet av ekologiska kläder. Vissa expediter var trevliga och hjälpsamma mendans andra tog frågan närmaste som ett påhopp (!). Framför allt var många okunniga i frågan. I en affär sa expediten ”den här t-shirten är helt naturlig” gjord av 50% bomull och 50% Modal. Modal visste varken hon eller jag var det var för något och den återstående hälften vet alla som läst det här inlägget att man knappast kan kalla naturligt.
En sak som var gemensamt för både billiga (Lindex) och dyrare (Casbah) affärer var att expediterna ansåg att deras kunder inte var benägna att betala mer för ekologisk kläder. Utbudet var heller inte särkillt stort, några enstaka plagg i varje affär. Oftast väldigt basic (läs trist) t-shirts i gråskalan. H&M hade störst utbud, fast då var det oftast bara 50% eko bomull.

Their working and living environment may change if we as consumers demands how our textiles and clothing is being produced. If we ask for organic or fair trade cotton in our shops, we can actually change the world for the better for many people. Use your choice, and make a difference!
Mer än 120 miljoner människor är beroende av bomullsproduktion och textil industri för sin försörjning. Deras arbets och livsmiljö kan förändras om vi som konsumenter ställer krav på hur våra textiler och kläder ska produceras. Om vi frågar efter ekologisk eller Fair trade bomull i våra affärer kan vi faktiskt förändra världen till det bättre för många människor. Använd dina val och gör skillnad!
