Birthday

Today is my birthday, and I got some lovely gifts!

Got this apron from mom. She made it of a kithen towel, canvas and parts of a sheet!

From Jenny I got these nice Fairtade erarings!

Getting cold?

I have already used my winter dress once, worn extra socks, scratched ice from my car in the morning and heard reports from Sweden that they already have snow. Yep, winter is on it’s way if you haven’t figured that out by now.

So I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you about a company that can prepare you for the cold weather.

Kusan started after a trip to Nepal making knitted hats and gloves. Today 10 years later (congratulations Kusan on your 10th birthday), they also make hand warmers, scarfs and handbags, all knitted to keep you nice and warm!

“All staff involved with Kusan receive good wages and work fair hours in a healthy and safe environment.”

This tells a lot about the attitude the company has towards their employees. To keep things sustainable within their fabric and product production chain they are working together with MADE-BY.

MADE-BY is an independent consumer label. This which means that when you see their label you can be sure that the products have been produced with respect for people and the planet.  Read more on MADE-BY’s website.

Here come some of my own favorites from this years Kusan collection, You can also go onto their WEBSITE to read more and see pictures in their nice gallery.

They have shops all around the world selling their products, but for the Swedish people there is one in “Gamla stan”  Stockholm (details below)

*THIS IS NOT A PAID ADVERT, we just like this company and their products!

Not a problem far away…

A lot of times our clothes are made far away, but the same sweetshops exist right here in Britain as well. BBC 4 expose a sweetshop right in Leicester, where the workers get £ 2,5, have no fire exit, and in general really bad working conditions.  I really recommend to watch it, this is the reality of our country. The clothes that we have in our closet could be made by our neighbor, it’s not a problem far away.

You can watch the program on HERE for 20 more days. (the program is called Fashion’s dirty secret)

More labels to look out for

GOTS is an international label for clothes and textiles, it includes both ecological and social requirements.

Strict rules for the use of chemicals while producing as well as rules for the working conditions for everybody through  out the whole production chain.

There can not be any harmful substances in the finished product and the garment have to meet requirements for wash fastness and shrinkage, which means that you as a customer will know for sure that you are making a good deal for the workers, the environment and for your selves!

Make sure you go in to their website look at the label so you know what to look and ask for in the shops!

A new week!

Sorry for the lack of updates here last week, sometimes life comes in between!  But hey here we go again. This week we will be writing about labels…. What is it to write about labels you might wonder, and my answer to that is simple: a lot! There is so many organization that are working with making sure that the clothes are made fairtrade, eco, or made out of organic cotton for example.  So we are going to try to explain some of the organizations that have a label you might se when you out shopping. Keep coming back!
